In the second half of the XIX century, merchant Yakov Pegov, together with culinary artist Lucien Olivier, opened the restaurant "Hermitage", which was known as a Parisian restaurant of the highest order and later became a favorite place of the Moscow intelligentsia. In 1877, the restaurant celebrated the wedding of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Pushkin Days were celebrated here, and Fyodor Dostoevsky gave a speech in memory of the great poet. In 1989, the Moscow theater "School of Modern Play" was opened in the building on Neglinnaya Street
